If you still feel uneasy, send an E-mail to Newegg customer service asking
for some kind of written confirmation of warranty. If you have that, and
Seagate turns you down, in my experience Newegg makes good on claims they've
made even when the vendor renigs.

Trust but verify. You can see through most hard drive wrappers, whether they come in just the wrapper or in the wrapper inside of a retail box. Go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and do the first portion of an RMA request, namely, enter the serial number etc. and get the warranty expiration date. Print it for your records. If the seller of the hard drive lied, you have a reason to return the hard drive, especially if you have not broken the seal on its package. I do this for all new hard drives I purchase from my supplier. A 5 year warranty should have at least 54 months left once you get the hard drive. I have gotten up to 2 extra months. Example: I have had 3 year warranty drives expire 38 months after I received them. Pot Luck!
