I plan on calling Bill and did not see it as " soliciting" I saw it as a very
kind offer to help. Was a bit dismayed at the situation.

Since you are not at ease with these things, it might be a good idea to call
the list member 20-odd miles away from you in Kent who previously offered
assistance and was jumped on for "soliciting business" here, assuming he is
still willing to help after being so unjustly chastised. It is, of course,
immensely more effective to trouble shoot in person than by speculation based
on minimal data...
