Are you sure about "kd7000"? ZD7000 is an HP Pavilion laptop. KD7000 is a
water ski.

If you can get to another computer, download the Windows Memory Diagnostic
here:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

and follow the quick start to either write it to a floppy or create a CD
image. If you create a CD image then in your CD burning software you have
to make a special choice to burn a CD image - simply burning the resulting
file in the conventional way won't work.

Whichever you end up with - CD or floppy - you boot* in the problem machine,
and it will immmediately start testing memory. Press the "T" key one time
to switch to extended tests. Then walk away for a several hours or
overnight (unless you see a memory failure reported right away). If there
are no memory errors reported after 4+ hours, chances are memory isn't the
problem.

Carl

* If it boots from the hard drive even though the CD or floppy are inserted,
you'll need to change the system's boot configuration using the BIOS Setup.

Subject: BSOD variation

HP Pavillion kd7000, 768 ram; XP SP2
Gets the following BSOD on startup and it is not possible to reinstall XP
"A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to
your computer.

If this is the first time (not so yada yada). If this screen appears again,
follow these steps:
Run a system diagnostic utility supplied by your hardware provider [none on
CD and none on HD]. In particular run a memory check [done and exchanged
chips in slots], and check for faulty or mismatched memory {all factory}.
Try changing video adapters [part of MB].

Disable or remove any newly installed hardware and drivers. Disable or
remove any newly installed software [none]. If you need to use safe mode
[yada yada] F8 advanced startup - NOT POSSIBLE OPTION.

Technical information:
***STOP:0x0000007F (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x000000000, 0x00000000)

I am coming to this auspicious group, b/c altho this unit has been back to
HP 4x in its first year of life, and this happened 2 weeks out of warranty
they are refusing to look at it for less than $350 + labor and materials.
MB replaced, heat sink replaced, CD/DVD-W replaced, HD replaced. Since only
$2200 new, it is hard to get a lemon law lawyer involved. Thoughts,
suggestions?????
