Are you sure about "kd7000"? ZD7000 is an HP Pavilion laptop. KD7000 is a water ski.
If you can get to another computer, download the Windows Memory Diagnostic here: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp and follow the quick start to either write it to a floppy or create a CD image. If you create a CD image then in your CD burning software you have to make a special choice to burn a CD image - simply burning the resulting file in the conventional way won't work. Whichever you end up with - CD or floppy - you boot* in the problem machine, and it will immmediately start testing memory. Press the "T" key one time to switch to extended tests. Then walk away for a several hours or overnight (unless you see a memory failure reported right away). If there are no memory errors reported after 4+ hours, chances are memory isn't the problem.
