When I mentioned refresh power - I was thinking along the lines of the problem I had -
I bought some '100' rated memory - it was, at that time much cheaper than '133' eventually - after lots of problems found out it was really 133 memory but had been 'down-rated' presumably due to quality control failures at a 'batch' level But at 100 it was only getting 3 refresh feeds in the time it would have got 4 at 133 Set my system to a 133 bus speed - and it stopped all those problems Could be your BIOS set itself to it's own ideas of frequency and speed when it complained about the CPU. I've also seen some warnings about systems not conforming to JEDEC settings Extracts from entry in docs on a MSI board .... Please confirm and adjust your memory settings in the BIOS accordingly for better system STABILITY e.g. Kingston HyperX DDR500 PC4000 operates at 2.65V 3-4-4-8 CL=3 check your manufactures for more details. It didn't say manufactures what! Also UPS will deal with over voltage - But will yours provide smooth, and correct output with undervoltage and bad frequency feed And remember PC's can sense an engineer's presence, and thoughts of a 4lb club hammer and smashed casings and circuitboards - you just have to project the image strongly JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Glazier" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 14, 2005 10:46 PM Subject: Re: Booting from Floppy + Life of AMD CPUs > Thanks, > Sounds reasonable to me. <grin> > I changed the battery first since I buy them 3 at a time, and > had just "stocked up". > I have a new Antec case with a 350w PS I was going to try next, > or at least rob it of the PS... > I had tried a different PS (and left it in) last summer. > > The "talking" BIOS reported the RAM was bad, so I RMAed it. > The results of several quick tests (swaps) seemed very consistant. > > Right after I got back from the UPS place, (in other words, a real > cold start later), the BIOS said the CPU was bad or not installed > properly.
