I am not sure why the laptop wouldn't be able to use the neighbor's wap if it has no security turned on. MAC address filtering perhaps, but then, DHCP on the laptop wouldn't be working. Could be the signal's locked to the wap, but not actually "connected"? There are two "connections" to consider in a wireless data link, the *radio* connection, and the *ethernet* connection. But I would expect some indication of ethernet connection failure.

A firewall setting on the laptop could also be preventing internet access, if the IP settings were set for dhcp, and if they have changed to match the other wap's dhcp server settings. But I would expect some indication from the firewall about any changes.

You might want to limit the laptop to your wap (or other preferred waps) only. I do not have access to a wireless machine at the moment, so I can not say exactly where the following items are located. But they should be on the Wireless tab of the wireless device properties page. I recall there is a global wireless setting to not allow automatic connections to non-preferred waps. Or it may be the other way round, allow automatic connections only to preferred waps. Then clean out the Preferred waps list, leaving only those you wish to use. Each preferred wap will have an option to automatically connect if within range.

Model Number B90-327W15-06
Description WireSpeed Data Gateway

Chan 6, mixed mode, 4x sppt disabled, hide SSID disabled
Security turned OFF (just for this test)

No wireless stations are listed.

Obviously the gateway and the NIC are not talking to one another, but I don't know where to go from here.

Thanks.
