I usually go by price... so I usually get WD or Seagate for desktops. I have
some Hitachi's for my laptop. I haven't had a problem with them....

Nearly all of my failed drives are older than 3 yrs, so the warranty isn't a
selling factor for me - unless I'm trying to decide between two drives with
similar prices. If the slightly higher priced one has a better warranty, I'll
get it.

Thanks Jim,

My 30gb Quantum (about 4 years olod) is loosing data, which resulted in
having to re-install the OS (win98). Looking at a new drive and the Hitachi
happens to be on sale. I have not seen them much around here.

I have found WD hasle free both in operation and warranty replacement, so I
hate to cross over, but 1 year is a little thin on warranty, when others are
offering much more.
