I would advise a monthly or quarterly image backup in addition to your
current strategy.  That would reduce your time for re-installation
significantly (you wouldn't have to re-install all of your programs again).

Sorry, Carl. You're right, of course. But I didn't mean it like that. My 
backups are in excellent order and if my hard drive were to fail or some 
other catastrophe occur I would have them all neatly lined up and ready to 
go. In an emergency I can cope. It's the time for reinstallation that I 
don't have right now; I was hoping not to have to risk precipitating an 
emergency voluntarily since I'm committed to getting a new computer in 
December.

Oh, well. Maybe I'll bite the bullet now that I've been exposed to all as a 
coward. But a well backed up coward!
