Pete, As indicated by others, the login name of the user account has probably been changed, so the id entered may be different, but Windows still thinks it is the same account
Sort of like you using a new email id through a new ISP, but keeping the same PC Also - the 'My Documents' in the root of C: is probably a different directory to the one that windows uses for the user's profile and personal settings.
