Marc,

Thanks for the link, could have saved myself some typing, and I'll read it
more carefully later.

I was referring to the formatting mode of writing the data to the platters -
essentially saying avoid packet mode
as it uses up the 1000 rewrite capability of -RW media very swiftly on the
most essential portions of the information written to the platters
Yes -RAM media is usually rated at over 1,000,000 rewrites, but...

4.5Gb data in 2K blocks is over 2,000,000 blocks, and a rewrite of an
allocation table on -RAM media for every block written
is double the rated capability of -RAM media.

So - filling up a -RAM platter once using it as a rewriteable disk can be
expected to exceed the platters rated capability.

The other consideration re + or - media:

Creating media to be played on a TV, or CD/DVD music player -
then get the platter type than matches that device's manufacturer (Sony,
Philips or whatever).

Formatting of -RW media seems to require the format to finish the whole
platter in 1 session,
while +RW media can be formatted as the data is written to it.
(Seems like -RW needs format, and then rewrite the formatted, but empty
sectors with data
and +RW can include the data in the sector as it does the formatting.)

But as I stated earlier
I've got to read that article more carefully.
