Greetings,
I have a user running Win2000 that inadvertently booted with a floppy in the
drive and subsequently is receiving a NTDETECT failed message. I'm thinking
the floppy must have had some old system files on it -- she trashed the
evidence somewhere along the way so I can't tell for sure. She swears
F-Secure didn't find anything when she first used the floppy so the best
guess is there's no virus involved.
Anyway, I'm booting from the Windows CD and trying to do a Repair to save
her data at the very least, and I am asked for the Administrator password
when I respond I want to login to "1) C:\WINNT". Heaven only knows what that
password might be.
Is there no other way to run the repair utility without this password? How
about a way to change the username for this login? I have her password and
mine (both admins) for this machine but not the original Administrator
password.
