All the things you described (where the clip marks are)
happen in the background to keep people that only "take"
and never "give back" from getting a "free ride"...

First you need (the program of course) and a Torrent file.
That tells the program where to "check in" to get instructions
to find the other pieces.

IT tries to find and get the rarest parts of a file first so the
later users are not left with "almost" the whole thing. It sounded
like a very well though out system...

The whole thing works best if lots of people are connected all
the time that have various sections of the file (or the entire thing).
Those people need to keep some files "selected" in the program
or nothing gets shared from their machine... Mine was a max of 3 IIRC.
I have seen up to 20 connections to my computer while in use..
It pretty much killed use of my connection for myself...
(I know it has speed limiters, but I was also in a hurry to get
some D/Ls finished...) The Gutenburg Project DVD with 9,000
e-books for example, and "some" Linux distro on 4-6 CDs...
It uses an internal type of modified SHA-1 for error checking,
but I always do MD5s on mine too since I wear my tin hat too
tight, <grin>

It is like anything else on the Internet. If you go to nice places,
you get safe stuff. By that I mean you HAVE to trust where you go...
AND, it is all trackable by design... It can't figure out where to get
pieces if it does not know where everyone is that is connected
at any given time... (With a good firewall, "YOU" can actually
see the IP addresses on those machines and the ver. and name
of the software they are using with the service.

As far as using it, click around on things and move them up or down
to "the other" Window in the program. Make sure you start them too.
I have a feeling the interface changed in the various versions I have had
so "exact instructions" would be less than helpful.
There are lots of things you can see by right clicking on stuff, etc...
You should only get the Bit Torrent program from the Official site.
There are known hacks of the program around that will compromise
your machine... Think of that. Getting a hacked file sharing program
that will share "anything" with the hackers...

This is a new computer and I do not have "it" now, so I can not get
any more detailed than that... Rick Glazier
