Possibly the original install included file associations set to programs or
software that had been 'installed', or placed on the second partition on the
first drive.

You can probably check this by telling XP to use the second partition as
whatever partition letter it had in the original setup

If replacing a drive with a bigger one, it is usually better to clone the
entire drive, switch the bigger drive for the old one,
removing the old on from the system until you prove the system works with
the new drive,

Then consider using the old drive as a backup, or squash the data down as
much as possible and just use any space available

And eventually, progressively wipe stuff you are certain is no longer
required because it's being used successfully on the new drive

Belt, braces, a tight waistband
and a spare bit of rope, safety pins - and keep one hand free and a chair
nearby
