It is netgear WGR614v4 connected to SpeedStream 5100 DSL modem and my PC with Ethernet cables.
I did check all my connections and everything appeared solid.
When I connected to http://192.168.0.1/start.htm it would only show apply and cancel buttons
and the test button was missing.
After doing IP release and renew a few times, the test button showed up.
When I clicked on the test button, it started working again.

I had left my computer on last night and it was fine when I went to bed
but when I got up in the morning I could not connect to internet.

What model number of router is it?
Do you use a cable or DSL modem with your router?
Did you try to do a cold reboot by unplugging and pluging the routers power back in? My PC is equipped with the Netgear WG 311 802.11g wireless card. The router provides a direct connection to the internet WAN port from the SB 5100 Cable modem.

Sometimes my wireless Netgear WGR 614 v1 would hickcup and loose the connection between my SB 5100 cable modem and itself. It has 802.11g 54Mbs support as well as backward compatible 802.11a and b support as well.

Sometimes the Internet WAN connection light on my router would not respond and go dark while the Power, Wireless and local ports stay lit. I have a CAT6 cable running from the SB 5100 cable modem to the Router Internet WAN port. First I'd turn off the router then the modem wait a few seconds then turn on the modem wait for it to power up full untill stanby mode is reached then turn on the modem, turn on the router until the WAN, Wireless and local ports are lit. If there is no connection light you may want to lower the duplex speed of the wireless nic to resync the handshake with the router. Try pinging the router to see if there is a response in communication between the wireless nic and router. If not try reseting the SSID the the admin software router page making sure that they both match exactly in the wireless nic and router. Note carefully that both old and new addresses are required.
