Boot into recovery console and do a
CHKDSK /F
at the C: prompt. Then reboot.
If no help, do a repair install of XP.
If you had a BartPe or an XpPe CD you could fix the boot.ini without
going thru the hassle of doing a repair install. You might want to
download one of the Knoppix CDs & boot that but unfortunately the
boot.ini may not be your only problem
