ATA 100 has a transfer rate of 100 MBytes per second. USB 2.0 has a transfer rate of 480 Mbits per second. Figure about 10 bits per byte (considering overhead). USB 2.0 has a transfer rate of 48 Mbytes per second. Ergo - USB 2.0 is about 1/2 speed of internal ATA100.

I made an Image file of my wife's computer last night. It was through an older USB 1.1 port, and a USB2 PCI card has already been odered to fix that as it was 40X slower than it should have been. (Maybe 12 hours.) I obviously have never done it quite that way before... NOT taking it apart seemed like a big plus, NOT... How fast is HD internal compared to HD USB 2.0? What is a "ball park" figure, assuming ATA 100 and 7,500 rpm for either drive and the MB... Rick Glazier -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
