I ran Chkdsk with the /R switch last night. It completed the process at
about 8:30 this morning. 

Several bad sectors (about 30) were found and data was moved. I suppose
I should replace the drive.

I will not have a chance to try booting again until this evening. I will
keep you posted.

  I still think you've got a HD that is on it's way out or at least 
it's power connection is.
