You probably have to select a user after rebooting where you didn't
previously, also, right?

If so, it's likely due to installing Microsoft .Net Framework. This
software is required for other software to work and may have been installed
automatically with other software. If you have it, it will listed under
Add/Remove Programs.

You shouldn't remove it as that will prevent other software on your system
from running.

The workaround is:

Go to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Power Options.
Advanced tab.
Un-check "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby".

I know you don't have a password. Just try it anyway.

To get rid of the Welcome screen after rebooting, install TweakUI and set
your account to auto-logon.
TweakUI is here:

Subject: Wake UP _screen_ with Win XP Home

With Windows XP Home Edition,

Yesterday a program was installed.
Now WinXP wake up screen is different.

After no activity WinXP
turns the screen power off -- OK, that's normal.

But upon wake UP the displayed screen is not the last application.
The display is the screen where you have to select a user.
After the user is selected then WinXP goes to
the last application.

Question:
How to turn this off?

This means...
Just stay at the last application and
power monitor off after inactivity time limit is reached.
When WinXP wakes UP then the last application is displayed
not the select a user screen.

Regards,
David
