Jim,

"Already know all this" means ... ?
A) already know about this fix, or
B) already know how to apply it in Regedit?

On (A), I think the jury is out on this fix solving your problem, until you
try it. Unless Wayne cares to provide the source of this recommendation, I
haven't found any support for it addressing your specific complaint. But it
is a general performance enhancing tweak, and if you are dealing with a lot
of desktop icons, it could help.

On (B), any use of Regedit, beyond running a .reg file that has been
provided, is an Advanced User thing. Average users should stay out of the
Regedit GUI - it's too easy to break a system with a typo or accidental
deletion. And average users should be very selective about who they accept
.reg files from (don't take candy from strangers).

Subject: Re: Computer Slow on Shut Down

I have worked very little with the registry and know very little
about it.

Tell me something: At what level of usage/knowledge should one
be (on a scale of 1-10) to already know what you just told me?

I appreciate your help and I'm glad there are knowledgable folks
to which I can turn, but "should I already know all this"? Why?
I'd like to, but how many computer users do? Do I need to feel
totally computer illiterate because I don't <smile>? Well, at least
you didn't make me feel that way, but sometimes I do!

Thanks again,

Jim
