What is the easiest way to put Win XP on the old computer that
presently has Win 98? Does he have to format the drive and
reinstall or can he install XP on top of Win 98? (assume he has the
proper installation disks).
Also assuming that the machine has enough get up & go then yes, he
can install XP on top of 98. Is it the best thing to do. No way since
drivers designed for 98 are lucky if they work at all with XP so he
could have problems with anything that uses a driver such as audio,
video, printers, usb ports etc etc. The XP install will try to use
it's version of the drivers it thinks it needs but they certainly
won't be the latest or even the best for his system. I highly
recommend that your friend does not take the easy route.
