Yep, just select the word and press the @Larger font size' button
on the tool bar.

The @ was a typo on my part, sorry. When you are composing HTML mail
there should be a Formatting toolbar visible, if there isn't, go to
View--Toolbars and check Formatting Toolbars. There is no provision
for formatting in plain text mode, any formatting would mean it was
not 'Plain Text'.
