What you are calling Real Time Scanning does not mean that the virus scanner is checking every file of your drives the whole time, its only checking the files your PC is trying to access.

Very true & what Carl was trying to say is that IF every file on your system is clean why would one need to re-scan those exact same files again. It's a complete waste of time re-scanning unless you suspect something has gone wrong with your system. The fact that one might have scanning "scheduled" just means that the waste of time is probably early in the am when one might not care.

Actually scanning your own outgoing email is also a waste of time IF your system is clean & IF you scan all your incoming email & IF one does NOT launch attachments. Most of know that the last part is hard to follow but that's NOT an excuse to open every darned thing that comes in & I suggest that downloading only 20k or less of every message then taking the time to decide should I or shouldn't I open this but of course spam filtering helps in this endeavor.

Does the new OE, I mean MSFT Mail, include some form of spam filtering ?
