OK, here's the deal on TD.

Because of all the bad publicity over their rebates (which was justified due
to more frequent problems reported compared to other retailers), TD started
offering a "Rebate Guarantee". The catch? You have to send rebates via
certified mail with return receipt. This reduces the value of the rebate
and also lets them know which rebates they must honor. Very convenient for
them.

More evidence of their less than consumer friendly side: When they offer a
motherboard and OEM CPU bundle at a special price, and the bundle doesn't
include a heat sink, they will only warrantee the bundle to work if you buy
a heat sink from them. And guess what - the price of their heat sinks makes
the bundle price just average if not high.

You don't have to google very hard to find info about court orders and
consumer complaints against TD. But just in case, here's one to get you
started:

Subject: Tiger Direct Bare Bones

I am not sure where all of the complaints come from, but I'm a high
school Computer Repair teacher. Our school has been dealing with Tiger
Direct for the past 5 years, and have never had a bad thing happen from
them. I've purchased things with rebates, and ALWAYS get them. Maybe
you guys/girls out there have had some problems, but I cannot say enough
good things about them. My account rep knows me by name (which other
companies don't). Furthermore, I've NEVER had a problem with returns.
On the rebate issue...if YOU, the consumer, don't follow the directions
perfectly, then you often don't get the rebate, but that's not Tiger's
fault. But, before you begin the flame war, I don't know your
individual circumstances - I'm just relating mine.
