THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM!
If it's so intermittent then you should be able by process of
elimination [eg: disable AVG] determine what is causing the problem
when it does occur. Try isolating what is different about both
systems when the problem occurs & also what is the same about both
systems at that time as well. Even after all this back & forth I
still don't understand how the LAN is setup which makes it very
difficult to assist you but I could be like some others & not bother
since there is not enough info.
I don't understand how it is set up, either. It was done by a network
professional who is a sometimes volunteer.
The other problem is that I'm not there often enough to run all the
tests. I have to try to gather suggestions and then try them when I
can get there and when they can let me have both machines for an hour
or two.
It's not that I didn't bother, Walter. Often it's that I didn't
think to do it. That's why I ask for troubleshooting suggestions.
If you truly want assistance & you truly have a problem then you MUST
slow down & record everything you can about the 2 systems & then
compare them. If that doesn't bring the problem to light then relay
the everything that you recorded to us so that we may help you in the
most efficient & expeditious manner. Not only is time precious to you
but to many of us here as well.
I get it. But you ask for everything about the two systems and some
times I can't think of what everything would consist of. :-(
Intermittently. What if the DoS was done in bursts?
You need to Google DoS if you think that's the problem but by the
very nature of DoS it is an attack on a server from hundreds if not
thousands of places simultaneously & continuos NOT in bursts. If it
was in bursts then how could one guarantee blocking the server being
attacked ? They could NOT the attack would be a complete waste of time.
I see. The host did report a DDoS earlier in the week but they say
they fixed it, so if it's not reasonable for an intermittent DoS, I
guess that's not it. Just clutching at straws.
Thanks for your help.
