This is exactly why I prefer firewire cuz USB is just too flaky.
Sorry I don't know what else to tell you as I've run into this way
too many times myself. Is the USB via an addin card or the mombo? If
via the mombo is the USB connection directly on the mombo or via PCI
slot?
My mobo, an Asus k8v has 4 usb2 ports on the back and
an L bracket with 4 more usb2 ports to connect to a 4 pin
connector on the mobo. No card, no pci, directly from the
motherboard.
the mombo correctly. Did you buy the external case the Plextor is in
or did it come as an external drive? I suppose you could try another
external case. What happens if you put the Plextor in the external
case the Samsung is in?
That is the mystery: I have 4 of those external boxes and
tried all the possible combinations swapping cables,
drives, usb ports, etc. The Plextor is the only one not
willing to work. One could assume that the drive is
defective. No, it works flawlessly when connected
traditionally to the motherboard via IDE ribbon cable.
probably it needs an exorcist :-))
Is the power supply OK for the enclosure?
Have you tried another power supply?
It just may be flaky.
