With Outlook 2003 you can have an Unread email folder under Favorites
so no more scrolling. All the email that comes in goes into this
Unread folder no matter what folder it was filtered to & you don't
even have to close any folders as it's there all the time even when
empty. Also you could add any folder to your Favorites folder as well
if that's of any assistance.

mailing lists that I am subscribe to into different mailboxes. When I check
my mail, as I close every mailbox, the next mailbox with the unread messages
is opened. Is there any way to duplicate this behaviour in Microsoft
Outlook? I can scroll through the folders list but I have a very large
number of folders so scrolling becomes extremely cumbersome.
