It has an RGB monitor socket and he said he got the mouse to work with it (but he wasn't sure how), and I was wondering if he got a PS2-USB adapter if he couldn't just plug teh keyboard into a USB port.

Sounds to me that the installed software &/or drivers allows a USB mouse but NOT a USB keyboard but someone has to RTFM.

My laptop has a PS2 port that can be used for either keyboard or mouse or both with a PS2 'Y' adapter. I've never hooked an external keyboard to my laptop but I also could connect either to the PS2 adapters on my port replicator. Maybe he needs one of them & yes you can get them in USB.
