I am trying to establish a remote desktop connection with my home PC that is
connected to the Internet via a cable modem. With that said of course my IP
addresses changes every so often. I seem to recall an application that will
allow one to create a "Virtural static IP" address.

Any idea what that mght have been?

You could use something like <http://www.dyndns.org/> to assign to your ISPs dynamic ip address then all you have to remember is the dns name no matter what the actual ip is.

I use to use MSFT's Remote Desktop when it first came out & there were some security issues so I switched to [EMAIL PROTECTED] but with that you need to know the ip address. One way around that & I believe it was suggested here is to send yourself an email message that triggers an auto reply & the reply will have your machines ip address in it. Once you have your router setup the way that you want & have the auto reply message at your remote location then just startup [EMAIL PROTECTED], keyin the ip address & you're a go for launch. ;-)
