Welcome to the club.
I had a similar experience is late 2003 when I "upgraded" to NIS 2004. Once
I removed NIS 2004, and without NIS 2003 installed either, the old Dell was
like a new machine. I had had NIS 2003 on my wife's machine too, and once I
pulled it off there, hers was significantly faster too.
Upshot is I don't use ANY of the big dawgs any more. All the 8 or 10
computers I care for for the extended family have AVG7 and Zone Alarm (both
free) and all except my machine are set for auto update (that is the only
way I can be SURE they are updated as they should be).
What about spyware?
