Somewhere just down the road is the local council tip

With a capacity of less than a DVD-RW, and a write time somewhat longer,
they're only being kept till their net residual value is nil, and any data
on them is past the government/legal 'keep till' requirements.
Then it'll cost so much to clean the data off of them and certify it's done,
that a hammer job will probably be their fate next year.

That's the problem with old PC electronics kit - if it doesn't fail, then it
gets to be too cost-ineffective to be usable.
