Since writing about VMware Player yesterday I've done some more testing.

VMware Player seems to work fine with MS VPC OSs stored on a USB external hard
drive but not so well using VPC OSs stored on a local drive (a partition of the
main/system hard drive).

For example, there was a problem with using a Win98 VPC (unable to locate
boot.ini) which others reported (not certain what OSs) in a VMware forum. Some
users suggest this is a (known?) bug. Another problem happened when VMware
couldn't open a VPC OS saying "Memory Size Not a Multiple of 4" when, of course,
this wasn't the case. Finally, there could be an activation problem with WinXP
(see page 30 in the VMware Guest Operating System Installation Guide - PDF
format). I tried a "repair" of VMWare Player to see if some of these problems
could be overcome - unfortunately this didn't happened.

Given that VMware Player is trying to use MS VPC OSs perhaps some problems
should
be expected. Overall the only/major improvement for me is the ability of VMware
Player to properly display ubuntu. My inclination is to uninstall VMware....
