Basically Seagate are correct ! An add in card such as a "Promise ATA
controller" has its own bios on board that will take care of drives
that are larger than the machines own bios can manage.
I would look for and obtain an updated bios from the mainboard
manufacturers web site in the first instance. It would also pay you to
carefully read and make sure that you understand what is required in
order to update the bios, and also download the tools that they provide
in order to do the update.
There is always the risk of an update failing !! Fortunately it is not
very common, but you should be aware that it can happen !!
These broken bios are, unfortunately, quite common ! Its not unknown for
a manufacturer to revise their bios twenty times or more in order to
cure particular issues.
Big Snips.
