More than likely this Dell Insiprion of vintage 2002 has an ethernet port already.
Once you have the service tag that can easily be determined. Computer model It's a Dell Inspiron and she says it's only identified as 8-something. I don't follow this, but she insists that there is no further model number visible anywhere on the computer or in the documentation. I've asked her to check if there is a service tag or express service code # on the bottom. She knows that she'll need an access point or router. Probably PCMCIA, as she only has USB 1. I'm not sure what kind of slots they are; if I can figure out what kind of computer she's got I'll check the Dell documentation.
