Sound volume control in Win has several sliders, including the master volume slider. Some of the sound/video players control the Wave slider, but if you're not looking, you won't see it.

When you close the player, you leave the win slider in some lower position, so the next time another player opens it, it can be too low to be heard.

I do not use Real Player, but have seen it happen in Media Player Classic. Eventually managed to set the options such that it did not happen. OTOH, maybe my settings had nothing to do with it - it just happened by itself :-)

I checked all the sliders -- CP > Sounds and Audio > Audio > Sound playback > Volume --
and a couple had "mute all" checked. Wonder why.

Thanks.
