Desktop is running XP/Pro, laptop is running XP/Home. Dunno about workgroup names, but I rebooted my laptop this afternoon and that gave me a [rare!] chance to try the printing stuff. I tried to print a test page and, indeed, it would *not* print. I got some error and the file was sitting there, queued. So I wandered over to "My Network Neighborhood" and I could see the workgroup, when I clicked on it I got asked for a user/password.... and as soon as I did that not only did the shared-filesystems become visible, but my file printed. > ...Is File and Printer Sharing turned on for both machines? I don't think it is turned on on my laptop -- it doesn't have a printer so I didn't see any point in doing that. The laptop can print to my desktop system [that has the laserprinter] just fine ONLY (apparently) if I first "authenticate" to the desktop. > ...The builtin XP firewall should already > be configured for F&PS, but a third party one probably isn't. I don't think that's a problem, because I can "share" my desktop's filesystems with no problem whatsoever and once I do that I can print just fine.. > Something definitely seems out of kilter, though, because it really > shouldn't be a problem. I'll try that, thanks! /bernie\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <-- -- ---------------------------------------- To Change your email Address for this list, send the following message: CHANGE WIN-HOME your_old_address your_new_address to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Note carefully that both old and new addresses are required.
