Thanks to all who replied. I checked the cables and everything was plugged
in so the ps is not the problem. I took the nic card out and tried to start
the machine up but I could not. The only response I got when I plugged it
into to ps was that the fan spun. The HD was totally dead. I checked all
connections and everything was secure. I contacted both eMachines and US
Robotics whose nic card I installed. Neither had any suggestions other than
what I've done. I guess I've hit the end of the line. Thanks again! Barbara

We are using old computers (about 1998 vintage) at work with no nic cards.
We wanted to connect to a dsl modem. I purchased and installed a US
Robotics
10/100 Mbps nic card. Computer was fine before installation.
