Don't I recall some time in the past you saying you never use the
manufacturers recovery system and always did clean installs ???
Correct. And I have to call Microsoft to authenticate in most situations,
even when there have been no hardware changes. I can make major hardware
changes on one of my builds and rarely have to call Microsoft to
authenticate. It is evident that Microsoft sees the clean install replacing
a restore system and makes me jump through their hoop of calling to
authenticate. When you call, always enter the numbers with the phone keypad,
as their automated system often does not understand your voice correctly.
Factory restores are not one of my services. My customers actually see their
computer run much faster when they get it back with a clean install than it
ran when they first set it up when new. The amazing results are all the
motive I need to do clean installs. This is not new. We power users cleaned
off new computer hard drives back in the Windows 95 days and did clean
installs to get the dramatic increase in performance.
