A question that I'd like answered, and perhaps you should consider: SATA-2 is rated at 300 with intellijunce SATA-1 is rated at 150
Would you get an appreciable additional throughput running either from an add-in PCIx? card instead of using the onboard connections With the latest boards, is there a benefit in throughput connecting PATA drives via an addin PCI or, if there is such a thing PCIx?, card? ( That is other than just being able to run each drive on it's own cable ) Re memory - see Toms Hardware ( wrong decision could cost you 25% of the possible throughput) - get double sided modules and, presuming you are not going to bother overclocking for the possible extra 10% on throughput, is it worth buying the more expensive brands Also - are you going to run an external drive for backup - If so, does the board have enough power for it on USB - or are you intending to use Firewire JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marc Sims" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 16, 2006 6:52 PM Subject: Re: Hardware: Looking for a 64-bit AMD mobo. Any gotchas with the Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 mobo I need to be aware about? Of course I'll need to get ddr2 memory about 1 to 2GB worth and a psu that supports SATA HD and a PCI-e X16 videocard. Going to look at the AMD X2 dual-core proc. I am looking on ebay at a slightly used 8KNXP 478pin P4 similar to that in my main machine to upgrade my wife's machine but then I saw a Gigabyte AMD 64 board and now looking at that......................! I do like the dual BIOS and the 6 phase power supply to CPU and things.
