You could try disabling and re-enabling the device. You can do that from device manager (devmgmt.msc) or from the command line with devcon.exe.

Hi, I have one application that uses Comm 1 to input data from a weather station. Occasionally when I reboot, it cannot connect. Checking with Sandra Pro, I see that comm port 1 is working, but I don't know why. Sometimes I have to reboot 2 or 3 times to get the app to see the comm port. Is there any way to close the comm port directly from Windows XP Pro without rebooting each time?
