Subject: Re: Archival Media Longevity
All info from few years ago indicated that _unburned_ media had a
short life 2-5 years. Once burned, it had very long life, on the
order of 10-100 years.
How will we know until we have lived that long and use burned CD's that were
burned 10+ years ago?
I am sure care and storage factor in. CD's out in the storage shed or open
patio in a box or in a commercial storage locker that does not have climate
control can not be expected to last as long. Nor will those in a box in a
hot attic. What about those you burned music to and are kept in your
vehicles? We run our home heat/AC 24/7 even if we are on vacation. We not
only have temperature control but a certain measure of humidity control,
although we do not have a humidifier or dehumidifier as such.
Again, this post is all questions, as I have no idea how long burned CD's
will last.
