Sorry, Hugh.... I forgot to apply your earlier suggestion. 
I'll try to remember (starting now) so there is a slight change in subject. :-)

Thank you for looking into this.... my practice has been (with a slow dial-up
connection) is to stop any download that seemed to be taking a long time and 
then
use my ISP's web mail service to check what was taking so long. I could then 
delete
or retrieve the message and attachment. Fortunately this doesn't often happen, 
so
this awkward work-around hasn't been too bothersome. However, if there was a
faster/easier/better way using Agent's settings, then that would be great.
