Interesting (to me that is )

If you need drivers installed to boot from a SATA drive,
and the BIOS cannot? see the SATA drive,

Where do the drivers get stored,

Or is it just that the BIOS is not showing the SATA IDE drive in the same
way as it shows the PATA connected IDE drives

Or - are they on the Master PATA IDE drive on the first PATA IDE channel
in which case if the PATA IDE's are disconnected, will the system boot from
the SATA IDE drive

Also are the PATA IDE channels actually 0 and 1 with the drives connected
as 0 and/or 1 on each of those cables
as indicated by the addresses in the boot.ini
and - what are the address codes for your SATA IDE drive boot partition
and where is that boot.ini and ntldr

On my ASUS MB, running XP w/ auto update. Athlon 64 +3000 CPU

SATA II is boot drive
2 IDE HD on IDE 1
2 DVD on IDE 2
USB IDE HD for backup
FWIW, 3½ diskette on floppy cable

boots to SATA based on boot sequence in BIOS

I didn't have any trouble loading the SATA drivers while installing XP, just
don't understand why the BIOS doesn't "see" the SATA drive. But, I don't
understand how this stuff really works anyway. It was just a surprise to me
that a 2006 MB needed drivers to see what I understand to be current
technology HD.
