The problem with McAfee isn't uninstalling.

Excuse me but the only reason I brought that up is uninstalling has been a Major problem with Norton products that it was being compared to.

It's detecting. More than a few stories of McAfee on a system missed \
things that other AV products caught.

And were the definitions updated on both prior to execution? I've done many comparisons over the years & IMNSHO all AV apps are at about 95% detection when used with the latest definitions. Never have I had a situation where McAfee did NOT detect something when it was really suppose to & that includes all of my clients. You know as well as I do as soon as a company gets to any appreciable size the stories start flying out of the wood work. According to some all system problems are MSFT's fault & I doubt that Network Associates has grown to the size that it has with out at least a few satisfied customers.

As always, the disclaimer applies that this may or not reflect the
immediate present, but there are enough other products with no similar
blemishes that I avoid both McAfee and Symantec whenever possible.

Most of them are smaller companies that are like Avis, we try harder. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Heck as an AV app I'm not even saying that NAV is a bad product but as Windows app the thing sucks. Way too many novices think that they can surf on the dark side once they have some AV app but you wouldn't race at Bonneville Salt Flats just because you have seat belts. All bad stories have to be taken with a grain of salt til at least you can verify them for yourself.

FWIW I hear that Avast is very good & there is a free version as well as a commercial product but I can NOT attest to that. If I hear things I'll be glad to pass them on with a disclaimer like above but when I've tested things out over & over for years while having none of the problems that are stated then I'm very leery just like when the neighbor saw a UFO last night.
