Sorry but IMHO you are in error & just because MSFT & you say
something is more intuitive doesn't make it so. I know of so few if
any novices that even takes one second to trim a message whether it's
one extra key or not.
The problem is with novices, not with OE. I have no difficulty
making OE behave. ;-)
Incidentally, the Vista version of OE (to be called Windows Mail)
has an option to start replies with the cursor at the bottom of quoted text.
