On a related issue- recently (since the purchase of one care and the addition of Defender) every time I open outlook my machine dies (actually it just goes verrrrry slow.) I checked the MS site and it appears that the problem is MpEng.exe hogging the cpu. The thread I followed had suggestions from MS that all had to do with defender not playing well with others. Sure enough I checked, MpEng.exe was using all my cpu resources. Since it only seemed to happen when I opened outlook, I guessed the program that defender didn't like was the Spam Inspector program (formerly from Giant software, bought out by MS). I removed it and lo and behold everything is back to working well. Seems strange that defender didn't like working with a well designed and useful (my opinion) add-on like spam inspector. If Microsoft has problems with software they now own, I can only imagine the problems they are having cohabitating with software from OTHER vendors!
BTW- it looks as if my uninstall didn't get everything- I just noticed the signature left behind (see below) Chris rich ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM!
