Getting a 'Microsoft Passport' id link is pretty innocuous:

The main points initially raised against the 'Microsoft Passport' facility
was that it was to be used for a large variety of things - including
'Secure' email and letting MS 'know' who was doing/using what!

And - given that the initial impression was that it would be an
'authorisation' facility for all sorts of access many - including myself
declined to use it when it was first introduced.

However - you don't have to use it for more than access to MS 'stuff' and
it's free - so why not join.
You joined this list didn't you
