So the bottom line is that there is *NO* way to use XP/Pro as a standard print server [in the normal sense of the term: *NO* other print server I use requires a user/password, not any of the Unix servers, or the Axis server, or the built-into-the-printer servers, etc]. That is, you *always* need to provide a password protected account on the /Pro system for the remote systems trying to print to use... UGH! I wonder if I can find a Unix-style LPD I can run on my /pro system and let *IT* handle the printer sharing.... > In XP Pro, printers have a security tab on the Properties page. I've checked that, but I didn't see anything on the security tab that related to sharing the printer -- I have what I suspect is the 'usual' settings: admin accts have all privs, "EVeryone" has only "print" privileges. > If changing ACLs and granular control over security is important, the > solution is the answer given in this classic joke: > > Patient: Doctor, doctor, it hurts when I do this! And that's not exactly true: all of the ACL controls are available in /Home, just a PITA to get at [now if you're talking *policy* management, then yes: they really crippled/screwed up XP/Home]. /Bernie\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <-- -- ---------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is your picture included in the Official Win-Home List Members Profiles Page? http://www.besteffort.com/winhome/Profiles.html If not, write to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
