Hi all,

I would completely agree with Wayne. Most of my knowledge for computers has
come through fiddling and experimenting. I started my exploration of system
internals by deleting command.com in DOS version 5.5. Once I put the system
together, there was no turning back.

Please feel free to ask but my whole point is that NO ONE gets
expertise until they try. Maybe they'll have to do it several times
until they succeed but until one stops the questions & starts trying
one will NEVER know if the could or couldn't do whatever it is.

I never built my own computer until I did it the 1st time. Did I have
plenty of questions? Sure but I was doing it as I went. Sometimes I
had to stop & dig for an answer before I could proceed but I never
stopped. I dug & dug for information on how to put a 72meg RFM HD in
a IBM-PC then because I can read I eventually found the answer but at
some point I had to put down the papers & say "here goes". You know
what? It did NOT work the 1st time I tried & come to find out I had
to replace the proprietary chip on the RFM Controller card.
Everywhere I turned I was told it couldn't be done until I just
picked up the phone & ordered a chip from WD. When the chip arrived &
I put it into the card then I could see the drive I was as happy as a
person with rose colored glasses even tho I had to now do a low level
format that took hrs & hrs & hrs. & then there was the regular
formatting. Somehow I lost my glasses when I tossed them in the air
the 1st time I actually wrote data to that beast but I had a 72 meg
HD in a machine that people said could only hold 10 meg.

If one never does a thing then they'll never have a question &
whether one calls an obstacle a minor nuisance or a mountain is
predominantly in their mind's eye but all can be overcome. You're
correct in that it may take a while but until one applies them self
then they'll never know.
