I first became a stand alone fan over 30 years ago when I bought my home
stereo, one piece at a time (except for the speakers as they come in pairs
for stereo).
I love my stand alone fax machine. Although my printer and scanner are
hooked to my computer, they are not a combo unit, but I still get copying
services without having to buy a copy machine.
Now I would like to purchase a stand alone DVD recorder which has a VHS
playback unit inside so I can accomplish two goals and objectives:
1. Copy my favorite VHS tapes to DVD -R before they further deteriorate.
2. Copy anything I have recorded on the hard drive of my Mediacom Motorola
DVT 6400 Series DVR to DVD -R's.
I prefer real world recommendations as to which one is best for me rather
than rely on the ratings etc.
My computer is not close to my VCR and it does not have a video input, nor
do I care to install one or a video card that has one. I feel I can record
all of the video I need to record using a stand alone DVD recorder. I hope
to keep most of my audio visual entertainment in my living room which is not
close to my computer. This way I can keep my computer simple and not have
one of those complex units that utilizes Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Thanks in advance for any advice on stand alone DVD Recorders. I see that
Price Watch and Price Grabber are running a close race to be the best
broker. Either has left www.onecall.com in the dust. I get free shipping,
pay no state sales tax and totally blow Circuit City prices away.
