However, in similar situations I have had luck in "ERASING" them with,
funnily enough a prog called "Erasure"

When installed simply select the offending file and choose "erase" and
hey presto - it's usually gone.  The prog also will erase the ends of
sectors and unused space by overwriting to military standards (is this
good I ask after all the recent leaks of information?)
