Good show Bruce! That's exactly what I'm going to do when my new shiny thumbdrive comes in tomorrow. It's like a care package for the dial-up folks.

AS M$ becomes more and more intrusive I've just gone to AUTOPATCHER for my
updates. May not be as quick as M$ but I don't get the feeling I'm being
bugged (like spyware) by the KGB. I usually just dl and slap the Autopatcher
files on a thumb drive and do my dial-up friends PC a favor when I drop by
their place. Of course I run several AVs on it before using it, haven't
found anything yet. Not advocating it, just FYI, especially if you got high
speed Inet and they use dial-up.

Now, back to lurking...
Bruce

This is getting to be a pain in the rear. This update was nothing more
than
installing, or re-installing, that damned validation tool. M$ should know
that your copy is genuine if it has checked it before. The tool leaves a
whole bunch of crap in IE and the registry that it can quickly draw from.
I
think they are just updating to counter the script kiddies that are
circumventing their protection. It, now, really drags out the update
process, even with broadband. I fell sorry for the dial-up folks.

[soapbox off]
